What is the convention for an interior designer to quote wardrobe area?
Q. An interior designer quoted, in the cost estimate, the area of a wardrobe to be 63 sqft. The frontal dimensions of the finished wardrobe are 5' x 9'. Based on experience with other interior designers, I was expecting the wardrobe to be 7'x9' (=63sqft). I thought that's the convention for costing a wardrobe by area.. measure the elevation width and height and multiply the two. Is this correct?

Can I be applicant to the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction?
Q. My country has just joined the Convention for Child Abduction in year 2009. My exhusband has absconded to Turkey with my kids in 2006. Turkey is a member since 2000, thus it has wrongful retention of my kids under this convention, but there is an Article 35 which states, as follows, so, am I able to be an applicant to this convention? Article 35: This Convention shall apply as between Contracting States only to wrongful removals or retentions occurring after its entry into force in those States.

A. No, you can't, I'm afraid. Since your current country was not a member when the removal occurred, the Convention does not apply. Richard

How do convention volunteers invite guests?

But how did the people get in contact with those guests? Those conventions are run by every day people like you and me. How can I tell whether I have a convention or convection oven?
Q. Every time I go to bake something, there are two ways to cook it. One explains how to cook with a convection oven, the other explains how to with a convention. I never know which one I have. How would someone figure that out?
Asked by The Jakeness - Sun Aug 13 18:30:26 2006 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Convection ovens circulate the hot air throughout the oven. You would hear low fan noise if you put your ear near it -- and it would most likely say it somewhere. Conventional just means a regular oven, where the heat comes from a coil on the bottom.

What Does the Geneva Convention Consider a Uniform and Does This Make Any Sense?
Q. From my understanding, part of the Geneva Convention description of a Combatant/Soldier is that they are in Uniform. What qualifies as a uniform and what purpose does this designation serve? People have suggested changing the Geneva Convention, I think it would be wise to redefine what a Combatant is. Is there a Fashion Patrol people running around saying "Stop shooting at us, where is all of your camouflage gear, we and the statistic people would feel better if I killed you were wearing it!"? I think anybody running around armed and part of a group of people running around armed attacking my fellow soldiers should be declared soldiers whether they are in head to toe military uniforms or dressed like the Village People.

A. Read the paragraph further and realize thatan "Ileagal Combatant" must meet more criteria that just some BS uniform thing. I do not believe you are really a soldier, as I have yet to meet anyone, including Base legal Personnel, who have any problemwith the section as written. You really tick me off suggesting that Terrorists deserve combatant/POW status and that shows you are not a real ground pounder. Ret. usaf snco

A. I think you need to make an appointment with the artist before hand. At conventions, artist will do on the site tattoos, but I think for the most part they want to show off their work, and will have someone show up to get a good piece put on them. It allows them to showcase their skill. If you show up the first day (if multiple days), early, you might find an artist willing to drill on you...If they're into your idea.

Is it usually okay for 3 fourteen year olds to walk around in an anime convention unsupervised?
Q. I'm going to an anime convention this summer with some friends, and we're just planning out the big details. Two out of the three of us have never been to a convention before, so we're curious. Is it generally okay for us to walk around alone, or should we make sure we have a chaperone?

A. You'll be fine. 14 is a good age to get into conventions, so good for you! You should probably just stick together and focus on having fun. The people at conventions are nice people. And most importantly, they're people just like you and me. Conventions are more about a bunch of nerds gathering in one place and meeting each other, whereas normally they wouldn't have met. The stereotype that conventions are full of creepers waiting to get into little girl's pants to fulfill their lolita dreams is just not true. I hope you have fun with your first convention! :)

How does the democratic national convention actually nominate a candidate?
Q. What I'm curious about is this: Say things continue in the same vein, and thus at the convention, both Obama and Clinton have ... 30-40% of the delegates each, and Edwards has 20ish %. So no one has the requisite 2025 delegates to be nominated. What process then ensues? Do candidates try to get delegates to cross over to vote for them? Can a candidate such as Edwards broker a deal where he is the VP candidate in exchange for his delegates voting for the ticket? How does it work?
Asked by benjaminady - Wed Jan 9 02:46:48 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. That situation allows a lesser voted candidate to broker their votes for whichever candidate they can get the most concessions from, or which ever is closest to their position.
